On Wednesday 11 April 2018 Barnsley Independent Alzheimer’s and Dementia Support (BIADS) hosted an event at their Dementia Support Centre in Barnsley to announce the launch of their new ‘here today, gone tomorrow’ campaign.

The focus of the campaign is to raise awareness about dementia and encourage support for BIADS and the services which they provide across the Borough to members and their families.

The event was attended by Stephanie Peacock, Member of Parliament for Barnsley East who has recently been announced as the new Patron of BIADS.  Several members of the Board of Trustees of BIADS were also in attendance, including our own James Burgess, Partner at MKB.

Why support BIADS?  With 3,000 people with dementia in Barnsley, and this figure set to rise, anyone could be in need of their support.  Dementia does not only affect older people – it can and does affect people in their thirties, forties and fifties.  Dementia is a unique illness where the carer takes on total responsibility for another person – those carers need the help and support of BIADS.

BIADS receives no statutory funding and funding successes are usually tied to specific projects, giving them limited freedom to support what is needed.

BIADS are looking to encourage support for the work which they undertake, which could be by way of regular contributions or a single donation, to help secure their carer support service for the long term.
