James qualified as a solicitor in September 2004, having trained at a UK Top 100 law firm in the North East of England. In 2006, James joined a niche commercial practice in Newcastle upon Tyne, specialising in all aspects of commercial property, before joining another UK Top 100 law firm based in the North East of England.
Since joining MKB in 2011 James has on average year on year handled 75 to 100 commercial property transactions, 200 to 250 residential property transactions (including development and investment transactions, often being commercial in nature) and 50 to 60 company/commercial transactions. However, in more recent years and months James has begun dedicating the majority of his time to commercial property and company/commercial matters, so that at the time of writing (October 2018) the work type percentages undertaken in connection with his practice are approximately 85 percent commercial property (including commercial and residential development matters) and company/commercial and 15 percent residential property. This work balance reflects James’ training background and he is delighted to be focussing upon development of the firm’s commercial practice, having been appointed Head of Department in 2018.
