Our Managing Partner, David Wright, has won ‘Yorkshire Lawyer of the Year’ at the Yorkshire Lawyer Awards. At a glamorous evening hosted by Steph McGovern of BBC Breakfast at the New Dock Hall, Royal Armouries in Leeds on 16th October 2014
These awards are rarely bestowed upon Firms outside Leeds and Sheffield (areas such as Barnsley, Wakefield and Huddersfield very rarely feature in these awards) and we are incredibly proud of David for this once in a lifetime achievement.
David was nominated for Managing Partner of the Year and David and his colleagues felt somewhat deflated when the winner of this category was announced from another firm in Leeds. We were therefore absolutely delighted when it came to the award for the Yorkshire Lawyer of the Year (this is a Judge’s choice award for outstanding achievement by an individual) and discovered that our David had won!! Who’d have thought it … he got the top award!! For once David was lost for words, but did a fantastic job with his ‘off the cuff’ speech.
David has worked at MKB Solicitors of Huddersfield Road, Barnsley (formerly Mills, Kemp and Brown Solicitors) since 1971 and qualified as a solicitor in 1977. David is regarded as one of the best property lawyers in the region, having over 40 years of experience in the area and has been the Managing Partner since 1998.
David’s wealth of experience on all things business and property related, his strong links to Barnsley business, dry sense of humour and no-nonsense approach to dealing with issues on behalf of his clients, make him the first point of call for many in our area.
His colourful personality has made him a well-known character in business and social circles in our region. His claim to fame is most certainly in trap shooting, winning the International Home Countries & British Championship, representing Great Britain for several years.
David states that ‘I am delighted to have received this Award. We have a fantastic team here at MKB who are enthusiastic for the work they do and for growing the business as a whole. I have worked at MKB for over 40 years and I am looking forward to what the future holds for the firm.’
Congratulations David on your much deserved award; an award that goes some way to reflecting all the hard work you have put in for your clients, colleagues and for keeping Barnsley on the map!
