MKB Solicitors welcome the news that the Government has committed to extending the family mediation voucher scheme for a further year.

Lord Ponsonby, the Minister responsible for family justice, has confirmed that the family mediation voucher scheme will be continued for a further year, to March 2026.

Following the news, Stephen Burke, Chair of The Family Mediation Council (FMC), said: “Analysis of the family mediation voucher scheme has shown it to be successful in helping people make important agreements without the need to go to court. MKB Solicitors welcomes its extension, not least as this will continue to ensure that families on low incomes can access mediation to help them resolve conflict.

The scheme provides a £500 voucher to all those who would not otherwise qualify for Legal Aid to put towards the cost of their mediation.  The voucher scheme is not means tested.

Since its launch, the family mediation voucher scheme has helped thousands of families navigate the challenges of separation without the recourse to court proceedings.

Please do not hesitate to reach out to our in-house Accredited Family Mediator, Dawn Lowry, should you have any questions about the voucher scheme.
